Description
Tetrasodium EDTA is also known as Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. It is chelating agent use in many industries such as textile, paper, food and cosmetics. In textile industry, it is used to prevents metal ion impurities from modifying colors of dyed products. In food industry, EDTA is added to some food as a preservative or stabilizer to prevent catalytic oxidative decoloration, which is catalyzed by metal ions
In cosmetics industry, it is use at low dosage to chelate the heavy metals in water. It chelates heavy metals such as irons, magnesium and potassium of the water and stabilise products. In the stabilization of bar soaps, EDTA is used as antioxidant and prevents discoloration and rancidity, in particular under the influence of day light. In the stabilisation of fragrance, EDTA is used to stabilise the perfume strength over time during storage in cosmetic formulations.
