Description
Cocamidopropyl Betaine in short CAPB is surfactant used in personal care rinsed off products. It is a mixure of coconut oil and dimethylaminopropylamine. It is usually available in 30% concentration and is a slight viscous yellowish liquid.
It is a secondary surfactant and has medium strength in surfactancy. It is a zwitterion (a neutral molecule) and therefore compatible with other non ionic, anionic or cationic surfactant. In mild formulation like skin care or baby products, it could be used as primary surfactant.
The incorporation of CAPB in formulation would thicken the product base and product pH should be adjusted as CAPB has slight alkaline pH by itself.
Good to know!
Colour of CAPB could varies from slight yellowish to yellowish as it is naturally derived from coconut.
