Description
Cetearyl alcohol is a mixture of cetyl and stearyl alcohol. It is a primary emulsifier. It binds water and oils together in oil in water or water in oil formulation. It forms stable emulsion and is always used with stearic acid, cetyl alcohol or glyceryl stearate. It is not only an emulsifier, it also imparts an emollient feel/waxy feel to our formulation.
It can be found in many skin care, body care or hair care products. In low dosage, it serves as an opacifier, just like cetyl alcohol.
Tips:
It needs to be melted and mixed with hot water to achieve a nice opaque cream. The melting point is 48 to 56 celcius.
