Description

Sodium Lactate is the sodium salt of lactic acid. It is naturally produced through fermentation process using natural plants such as beet root and corns.

In personal care and cosmetics industry. It is often used as moisturising agent or humectant. It can be used in both rinsed off and leave on products. The rinsed off products are such as facial cleanser, baby products, body wash as well as hair shampoo. As for leave on products, the dosage used is usually lower like 0.20 maximum.

In soap making, Sodium Lactate can also be added to cooled lye water in order to speed up unmolding time. Using Sodium Lactate produces harder, longer-lasting bars of cold process soap. Soap bar made using Sodium Lactate is extra bubbly and moisturising as well. The soap surface is smoother too !!

 

Good to know!

End product pH should be around 6.5-7.5 or higher. Sodium Lactate doesn’t work well in acidic pH.
